2 TIME NEW YORK MARATHON WINNER , MARILSON SEEKS HIS 3RD SAO SILVESTRE TITLE

After winning the New York Marathon for the second time, the Brasilia native, Marilson Gomes dos Santos can achieve higher standards in his career. According to his trainer, Adauto Domingues, Marilson will participate in the São Silvestre Race in the last day of the year, seeking his 3rd title at the event.

" There is a good chance he will enter the competition, I'm only waiting for his arrival from th U.S to check his conditions. If he is feeling well and pain free he will be good to go". Both trainer and athlete will evaluate his post marathon status. " It's always important an all around check up after a tiring event like the New York Marathon", said Adauto.
Marilson won the most traditional race in Latin America twice, 2003 and 2005. The record still belongs to Paul Tergat of Kenya, winning 5 times (1995, 96, 98, 99, 2000).

After his second triumph in New York, Marilson is expected to rest the whole week. He is planning a trip to Disneyland with his wife Juliana, also an athlete.

Asked about what will happen with his arrival in Brazilian soil he said: " Probably there will be a parade and some celebration"!

At the age of 31, Marilson is the biggest name of Brazil in long distance running. He holds the South American record times in the 5.000m and 10.000m race. He is also the only South American to win in New York. He even surprised some of the big names of the race, including Paul Tergat, who said he didn't know who Marilson was before the race.

Since than , Marilson has consolidated his name in the sport, obtaining significant results. Last year he finished eighth, both at the London and New York Marathon.
